On Friday, October 17, our schools will join people from around the world in marking the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. As a Catholic learning community, we are called to be the hands of Christ in our community.
To answer this call, the York Catholic District School Board (YCDSB) has started the annual tradition of fundraising on the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty to help children be present, prepared and ready to learn in our schools.
Thanks to your generosity last year, our first system-wide fundraiser raised $41,115.25. Those funds directly supported 41 YCDSB families – helping with school supplies, transportation, nutrition and other essential needs that remove barriers to regular school attendance. Each dollar was stewarded by our Attendance Counselling Team in collaboration with school principals, ensuring resources reached students quickly and with dignity. And 100 per cent of the money raised went directly to helping those in our community.
This post is a reminder of what has already been communicated by your school about how they will participate.
We also have a Canada Helps page where members of the community can support this fundraiser. You can click here and locate the “Apply your donation to a fund set up by this charity” dropdown box on the right hand side of the screen. Select “YCDSB – Eradication of Poverty” in that dropdown.
Every contribution makes a real difference. Students thrive when they can get to school consistently and feel prepared.
If you are able to donate, thank you. Your kindness is a powerful witness of our faith in action and a blessing to the students we serve.
